¢º NEOGPS Hardware
Q. What is the advantage of NEOGPS
CF ?
A. NEOGPS CF is a CF (Compact Flash) type GPS Receiver to
be added on Pocket PC or Web-Pad which has the Compact-Flash
extended port on Win CE/Pocket PC2002 O/S basis. The large
built-in battery for 8-hour's duration in full operation as
a part of NEOGPS CF design, will release you free from the
worry of ending-up with power-discharging when using it with
the POCKET PC in a total mobile fashion. The omni directional
nature of the Power Helical Antenna which you can select as
an optional item supports further greater field of vision
above the horizon and more accessibility to GPS satellites
from variable angles of orientation. So, it will provide the
Pocket PC users with the most convenient and excellent platform
for carrying and using the NEOGPS CF on mobile fashion. It
also comes with dual interfaces to CF Card slot of Pocket
PC as well as a USB port on your Laptop PC.

Q. Could I use the NEOGPS CF and COMBO
with Laptop PC ?
A. Yes ! This NEOGPS CF has built in a serial port on the
head side. Just connect the USB cable, optional, into the
serial port. And NEOGPS COMBO also can be connected to Laptop
by optional cable as well. While, you need to purchase the
software for Laptop PC additionally.
Q. Is there any other software that
I can use for my Laptop PC ?
A. Yes ! MapTech's Terrain Navigator 2002 and Fugawi's navigation
software have been tested by us and proved to be compatible
with NEOGPS CF so far. Those software are Windows OS (Windows
98/2000/NT/ME/XP) based. You will need to use a serial to
USB cable and set the drivers for the cable to work correctly.
Q. How many hours will the NEOGPS
CF work for ?
A. The built-in rechargeable Li-ion battery will operate nonstop
for approx. 8 hours on full charge. It will take 2 hours for
the NEOGPS CF to be charged fully by the AC adapter charger
coming along with the NEOGPS CF in the box.
Q. Does the GPS receiver consume any
of my Pocket PC power ?
A. Yes and no, NEOGPS CF Receiver is powered by internal rechargeable
battery. But your Pocket PC consumes power to automatically
activate CF interface as long as the CF interface device is
in the CF slot. To save Pocket PC's power when it is not used,
detach any device from the CF slot.
Q. Does the NEOGPS CF consume its
own battery power when it's not used ?
A. Yes, a very small amount of currency is supplied for the
GPS chipset to keep on holding the acquired position data.
This is how the NEOGPS CF can fix the position faster than
the other GPS receivers. The NEOGPS CF uses the data previously
acquired to fix a new position without the zero-based data
processing.
Q. How accurate is the acquired data
?
A. Errors in the range of 10-15m are unavoidable. The more
satellites receive, the less errors in the range.
Q. How many satellites at least are
recommended ?
A. You should get more than 3 satellites at the moments. NEOGPS
CF and COMBO can seize 12 satellites simultaneously. Total
24 satellites are going around the earth¡¯s obit 24 hours a
day.
Q. Should I pay for GPS satellites
?
A. Currently, GPS satellite receiving is free of charge.
Q. Should I register my NEOGPS unit
?
A. It is no need for you to register your NEOGPS unit for
free use. While, we highly recommend for you to keep the serial
number for any possible customer support.
Q. What am I to do if the Pocket
PC goes dead ? Will I lose my Navigator program ?
A. Yes, you will lose the program. You will have to download
the Navigator software every time you lose all of the power
from your PC. If the original software has been lost, you
may get the FREE Service by E-mail request bearing the serial
number of NEOGPS, Invoice Number of your purchase and date
of purchase.
Q. Why did I not receive the USB
cable to Laptop PC for my Laptop PC ?
A. The USB cable to Laptop PC is sold separately with the
software for your Laptop PC.
Q. Does the Power Helical antenna
work in the vehicle ?
A. The proper placement of the GPS antenna is critical to
ensure the highest performance from the GPS system because
the GPS data are carried down on the earth from the GPS satellites.
For in-vehicle use, the helical antenna with its built-in
amplifier can pick up the signals from the GPS Satellites
only when it is placed close to the windshield or on the dashboard
of the vehicle.
 |
Q. How long does it take for the
NEOGPS to get the position ?
A. The NEOGPS CF will initiate the position data acquisition
when it is used at first time. The initial data acquisition
takes between 60 seconds to 4 minutes with the active patch
antenna on. The initial data acquisition time depends on the
GPS signal strength, the antenna placements, and the obstacles
or interference around the antenna. Once the initial data
is acquired, the NEOGPS CF never do a cold start again as
long as its internal battery is not completely down or the
reset is not done by the program Navigator. After the initial
data acquisition - whichever the GPS application on or off
with it - the NEOGPS CF gets a new position within 3 or 5
seconds and it fixes a new position every second. While, the
NEOGPS COMBO needs same time like other competitive GPS receivers
as it does not has built-in battery to keep the last position.
 |
Q. Why it takes so long to fix the
position when I use the NEOGPS CF after a long distant traveling
?
A. When the NEOGPS CF is moved more than 200 miles without
operating to fix the positions along the way and it is turned
on to start, the NEOGPS CF has to start much of data processing
to fix the new position with the previous position data that
is saved on the chipset. The farther it is moved without operation,
the longer it takes for the NEOGPS CF to fix the new position.
When the position is not fixed in five minutes after long
distant traveling with the NEOGPS CF off the POCKET PC, it
should be reset by using the program Navigator. The NEOGPS
CF will initiate the data acquisition from the beginning when
it is reset.
 |
Q. Why does the indicator show Red
and Yellow dots on the compass ?
A. The Red Dots indicates the satellites that are transferring
data to your GPS receiver. As for the Yellow Dots, this indicates
the Satellites that are in reserve and are ready to transfer
data to your receiver.
Q. Can I share POI data with my coworkers
?
A. Yes, you can share it with anyone who uses the Navigator.
The format of the POI data base is text file, and it is located
in the My Document directory. You can copy and send it by
e-mail to any Navigator user. Please do not change or edit
the file name and the contents. Otherwise the Navigator never
recognizes it. It is recommendable for you to save a copy
of the POI data file on your desktop regularly. Your POI data
is very much valuable and it is built by your time and traveling
like a field data collection.

in car navigation system.
¢º Compatibility with other Software/Map
Q. NEOGPS operates normally if I
put both NEOGPS CF and CF memory card on CF expansion pack?
A. This is a best idea because of the limitation of Pocket
PC memory capacity. But, make sure you must put the CF memory
card on front slot and NEOGPS CF on the back considering convenience.
 |
Q. What other mapping software is
compatible with the NEOGPS CF?
A. Any mapping software supporting the standard data format
of NMEA 0183 and the data speed of 19200 baud rate for NEOGPS
CF or 4800 baud rate for NEOGPS COMBO is compatible with the
NEOGPS series. You will need to check to see if your mapping
software supports the MMEA 0183 data format and 19200 or 4800
baud rate. Most of old versions of the mapping software are
preset on 4800 baud rate with the standard data format of
NMEA 0183 but later versions or recent software provide users
with the higher data speed selection option in the GPS setup
menu. MapTech's Pocket Navigator and ESRIS' ArcPad have been
tested by us and proved to be compatible with the NEOGPS so
far. Those software run on the Win CE or Pocket PC 2002 platform.
 |
Q. Matter requires attention
- When you insert or take NEOGPS CF or COMBO out from Pocket
PC, do not deal it forcefully, or wave it side to side. Please
look carefully the CF slot or serial port and insert the GPS
receiver properly.
- The built-in battery of NEOGPS CF needs the suitable a battery
charger when recharging and please avoid completely discharging.
In case of re ? operating NEOGPS CF after complete discharge,
it takes somewhat to seize current position and time.(This
is called ¡®COLD START¡¯.) You should avoid
the complete discharge of the built-in battery to keep information
of current time and satellites position.(This is called ¡®WARM
START¡¯ or ¡®HOT¡¯.)
